Contemporary media, which is a kind of new media that we known as, and later deriving into a typically technology-driven media from the internet, which means all kind of social media such like online publications, blogs and video tec. It has already replaced the traditional media distribution.  The progressing of technology gave us to receive information in different time or region, people do not need to have a face to face talk with the others. Every single of person is being a window of online data, such like people can find your privacy online, and this is an unavoidable thing that we can do. As the physical spaces can directly reflect the relation between place and space. Therefore, the way that we put ‘space and place’ into the presentation is to combine the idea of these two elements in our project to create a new concept of fashion show, such like projecting something in somewhere else, or even an object, which directly related to our theme of the show. The screen that we had projected on the model is a live camera from places in rest of the world, we can know others thinking or behavior to get information and they do not aware on it. In the other hand, a Go-Pro was set up on the models’ forehead, which implies that actually the audience were also being recorded. As you have an ability to know others information, people can also have a right to get yours.

According to Neil Postman (2000) described, no matter for both psychosocial and geo-economic, it also showed an urban form keep increasingly to entangle with the proprietary media because of its continuously expanding ecology, such like Google, Facebook etc.( Jack, G., William, M.). As a media producer, we can use this advantage to develop and create its own concept by sharing and spreading out in the internet. All of these social platforms are fast becoming a hub for people to share ideas. Considering the crowd psychology, people are easily to being affected and prefer following others in this atmosphere, the new media will definitely being an important role in the future for a long period of time. Thus, news and information can freely spread between people to people because of the activation of technology.

In addition, we tried to create a primary edition of simultaneously multiple screen model. With the evolution of multiplatform environment, television storytelling can be splashed across multiple screens in the same time, this multiplatform evolution lead to a high expectation of viewers to experience it. (wired, 2012) In view of this, we had used the boxes as our idea to apply on this technique. Models were the moving object which being projected on their surface is also a kind of the multiplatform development. Further more, from the media maker’s perspective, this idea can give them a way for making the storytelling have more content to show. In case of the blogger, they can show their video in another way, but not only with the words or watching them with tablets or cell phone.

One the other hand, not only for the individual, but also the whole society. According to the article of CQ Criterion Quarterly, it stated that ‘Media events’ is a mirror to a whole community that they reflect and show as much as aspirations built around occasions which can defining a nation through social and political aspects.(Criterion, 2012), which can clearly showed how and why the events can indirectly capture human’s mind.

 

In my own knowledge, there are many experience and new knowledge I had gained from this module, which divided into several aspects, challenges and obstacles that we had faced in making our artefact and the presentation of our exhibition, things that I have learnt from my groupmate and the contribution that I had given in this project.

First of all, despite the preparation work, the weather and location requirement is the first thing that concerned. During the process of making our project, not only for booking the equipment, we need to have a booking with the place, inviting guests to be the model, considering the website that we had projected may violent the copy right or not etc.

Since we cannot successfully requested to use the art gallery, we need to do our show in outdoor places. Therefore, we need to borrow the tent to prevent raining calling off the event. Secondly, the show can only be held at night because the projection cannot be seen under daylight.

Moreover, not only the main planning of our show, but also the post-production skill of the artefact. The main theme of the project is about the culture and interaction between new media affecting people. Mathilde gave a good planning on thinking the new type of fashion show to show the above theory in another way. Furthermore, our artefact gave people a new high-tech feeling. James did on a good use of the sound track and after effect, the editing skills of the video also give me a good reference for inspiring me to apply different skills on making video in the future.

Last but not least, in this project, I was responsible to be the photographer, assisting on recording the video and the promotion of our fashion show. As lots of live audience are there to watch the show, I need to choose the best angle and spaces to take the photos but not affecting them to enjoy the show. To provide different scenes in the video, extra cameras were set up in the side and the bottom of the desk to give the best vision in every perspective. For the promotion, I had used the social media for spreading news to people, such like Facebook event was opened to invite people for joining our show. Instagram account was also set up to update the news and information, photos in the show also be uploaded.

 

To conclude, we applied the concept of ‘space and place’ to the fashion show, the models were different with the traditional one as the box that they carried which was also an object to spread the news and information through the projection. The reason of using this idea cis to reach the purpose of getting and receiving information in the same time, which related to our main theme of the project. The fast development of new media created a significant impact on the social aspect which included attracting more people for using. Due to the unlimited resources of getting the information, it is easy for people to get it in everywhere. Our idea can slightly conclude the further development on the multiplatform aspect, which media maker can use this opportunity to expand their thinking to public.

Furthermore, the weather and location requirement gave us a level of difficulties to hold the event, more preparation work and post-production work is needed to improve the quality of it. Theme planning and editing skills were learnt from the groupmate which can give me an inspiration to apply in my profolio in the future.
